How to Add Ancestors to a Family Tree
It is easiest to add ancestors to the tree generation by generation, from parents to grandparents and on deeper into the lineage.
Climb up the generations
Open a person's tree and add their father and mother, they take their place a generation above. Then open a parent's tree and add their parents in turn. Step by step, the tree grows deeper into the lineage.
Note what you know
A name is enough for each ancestor; the years of life, places, and occupation can be added later. Even incomplete data is already a node of the tree that connects the generations.
Link the existing ones
If an ancestor's page already exists, created, say, by relatives from another branch, connect it to the person directly or by request. This is how the trees of different families merge.
Fill it out with stories
Ancestors come alive when you add photographs and accounts. Invite the older relatives, they remember what the documents do not and will help you reconstruct the branches.
