How to Order a QR Code Plaque
For a QR code to last a long time outdoors, it matters which plaque you choose. Let's look at materials and mounting.
Materials
Stainless steel and ceramic work best: they stand up to rain, frost, and UV light and last for decades. Paper and ordinary plastic stickers are no good outdoors — they fade within a season. Engraving on metal lasts longer than printing.
Size and contrast
The ideal code size is at least 3 cm per side, so a phone can read it reliably. Contrast matters: a dark code on a light background scans fastest. Don't make the code too small or glossy — glare interferes with the camera.
Mounting
The plaque is attached with stone adhesive or with screws into pre-drilled holes. Place it where it's easy to bring a phone close — usually on the lower part of the headstone. Keep in mind that in winter snow can cover the lower portion.
Where to order
QR plaques are made by workshops that do engraving and headstone production. Bring a ready file with the code, or a link — it will be transferred onto metal or ceramic. Ask about the warranty on the coating's durability.
